Portrait by Garth McKee
Megan Cullen is an Australian photographer and director based in Los Angeles. She graduated with First Class Honours from Griffith University with a Bachelors in Documentary Photography. Within a year of graduating, she was invited to speak at the United Nations about her work on the Peace Art Project Cambodia with legendary UK war photographer, and her mentor, Tim Page. Since then, Megan’s work has been widely exhibited and published internationally.
Throughout her 20-year career, Cullen has become known for her spontaneous and natural shooting style. She primarily shoots on 35mm film, and brings her experience as a documentarian to her work. Photography has taken Cullen from riding with the Hell’s Angels to following a UFO movement, to shooting fashion editorials in Paris, London, Berlin and NYC, to capturing portraits of artists like Billie Eilish and Amanda Gorman. Most recently she joined Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, on their European tour, capturing both intimate backstage moments and electric performances.
Cullen has directed music videos and short films for the past ten years. Her most recent short on the festival circuit, Miss Underwater was nominated for Best Craft and Best Cinematography at the St Kilda Film Festival. She is currently writing and developing her first feature.
