Away from the noisy scooters, the high season traffic. Away from the frozen pina coladas (not really complaining), beach clubs and hagglers. I found what I was looking for.

Roadside Roses (2011)

The rental car’s radio crackled. The only words we could make out were, cinco, cinco, cinco, perros, no. Five, five, five, dogs no?

We passed so many almond trees. My brother shouted out in his sleep that night, “almendras!”. 

The next day, nearly out of gas, we swerved into a station. Beauty was growing in the gutters.

Driving around the outskirts of Truth or Consequences,  my sidekick and I spotted the biggest moon of our lives. We sped over the hill to try to follow it. We got some air. We got lost. We found this slide instead. Some shots deserve a little Thelma and Louise-esque driving.

Traveling through the Southwest I shot a roll of film for a friend who loves signage. Little did I realize I popped the roll back in my camera and accidentally ran it through again. A great mistake.
